Problem

It's peak hour and you’re on the freeway, wouldn’t it be nice to know how long it is going to take to get to your freeway exit?

Often we are travelling on the freeway with no visibility of how traffic is flowing or whether we should seek an alternative route. This leads to driver frustration because of the uncertainty of how long your journey will take.

Solution

From now on live travel times will automatically be displayed on selected electronic freeway signs during peak periods on weekdays and updated every few minutes.

Using a new smart technology system and in-road vehicle detection sensors, we are able to estimate travel times to inform motorists of current traffic conditions ahead and give them an estimated time of arrival to key freeway exits.

Every few minutes, the smart system uses an algorithm that considers distances and current average travel speeds to estimate travel times, which is then published on the overhead electronic freeway signs in real-time.

Displaying travel times will reduce driver frustration and enable motorists to make more informed en-route travel choices by being able to change their journey based on the displayed travel times that can be used as a guide.

When and where

Travel times will automatically be displayed on selected electronic freeway signs during peak periods from 6am to 10am and 3pm to 7pm on weekdays and will be overridden if an incident or another priority message is required.
