South Western Highway Newlands Improvement

​We will be upgrading a 2.7 km section of South Western Highway in Newlands.

The focus of the project is to improve safety and reduce the risk of run off road crashes in the section between Newlands Road East and Logiudice Road.

Scope of works

  • Widening the existing road pavement and constructing sealed shoulders to improve safety
  • Intersection improvements including installing wider seal to allow left and right turners to be passed by through traffic.
  • Horizontal and vertical realignment of a 1km section at the southern end of the project.

November and December 2017

  • Service relocations
  • Vegetation clearing (minor) and pruning.
  • Some minor road construction and widening works.
  • Traffic management, including stop/go traffic controllers, will be in place as required for the safety of drivers and workers.

January to April 2018

  • Vegetation clearing (minor) and pruning.
  • Road construction
  • The major impact will be a realignment of a 1 km section at the southern end.
  • Traffic management, including stop/go traffic controllers, will be in place as required for the safety of drivers and workers.
