Great Northern Highway – Ord River North

Jointly funded by the Australian and State Governments, the project will see a section of Great Northern Highway upgraded in the Kimberley region north of Ord River. Following on from other projects in the region such as Great Northern Highway – Maggie Creek to Wyndham and Bow River Bridge, the project will provide continued employment for the local community and a more reliable road network.

A call for design and construction contract proposals has gone out to industry.

Scope of works

Section One
  • Reconstruction of eight kilometres of highway including drainage improvements, parking bays and the construction of two passing lanes
  • Revegetation and rehabilitation works
  • Removal and replacement of asphalt on Spring Creek Bridge
Section Two (currently unfunded)
  • Reconstruction of nine kilometres of highway including drainage improvements and parking bays
  • Revegetation and rehabilitation works
  • Replacement of bridge over Tickalara Creek
Section Three (currently unfunded)
  • Reconstruction of nine kilometres of highway including drainage improvements, parking bays and the construction of one passing lane
  • Revegetation and rehabilitation works
  • Replacement of bridge over Frog Hollow Creek

Sections two and three will be delivered as funding becomes available.
