New Norcia Bypass - complete
This $29.8 million project was jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian Governments. Delivered by Decmil Australia the project involved the construction of a 6 km bypass to the east of the historic town of New Norcia including a new 88 metre bridge over Moore River and a scenic lookout.
New Norcia is Australia’s only privately-owned monastic town and is an internationally significant heritage estate. Founded in 1846, it is a popular tourist destination with 27 of the town buildings classified by the National Trust.
Opened to traffic on 1 May 2017, the bypass has helped remove the majority of heavy vehicle movements from the historic town precinct and allowed for future development and restoration of the town.
