New Norcia Bypass - complete

This $29.8 million project was jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian Governments. It was managed as part of the Great Northern Highway: Muchea to Wubin Upgrade Stage 2 and delivered by Decmil Australia.

New Norcia is Australia’s only privately-owned monastic town and is an internationally significant heritage estate. Founded in 1846, it is a popular tourist destination with 27 of the town buildings classified by the National Trust.

On 1 May 2017 traffic started using the New Norcia Bypass. Final roadworks, line-marking and landscaping were completed in mid-2017.

The Bypass stretches for 6 km to the east of the historic town and includes a new 88 metre bridge over Moore River and a scenic lookout.
