Dongara to Northampton

Planning project

We are undertaking an Alignment Selection Study for a future Dongara- Northampton Coastal Route, in the Mid West-Gascoyne region.

The aim of this study is to identify a preferred alignment suitable for Over Size-Over Mass vehicles and freight transporters and address long term freight requirements.

This study is supported by the Mid-West Development Commission.

Latest news

In late 2015, we commenced consultation with potentially affected landowners, the local community, local government and other key stakeholders. Feedback received during the consultation period was assessed and we are consulting with a number of Government agencies to ensure the alignment of our study with state planning objectives and priorities.

We are working with Local and State Government agencies to identify a preferred alignment. We will continue to liaise with these key stakeholders to resolve outstanding queries and hope to identify a preferred alignment early 2019.

Once a preferred corridor is selected, we will seek endorsement of a preferred alignment from the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC).

Further engagement with landowners and key stakeholders will then be undertaken as part of the work to refine the final alignment.

Project scope

In August 2015 we distributed a Study Overview to local communities outlining the six feasible route options and associated benefits and considerations. We also held public displays at a number of local venues, giving people the opportunity to ask questions.
