South Coast Highway

South Coast Highway links the City of Albany and the town of Esperance, providing an important freight transport corridor servicing the ports of Albany and Esperance.

It is a major east-west inter-regional route that connects Ravensthorpe, Boxwood Hill, Jerramungup and Esperance through to Albany.

Scope of works

Pfieffer Road to Cheynes Beach Road - Stage One completed May 2017

  • Works involved the full reconstruction and realignment of a 4 km section of South Coast Highway from Pfeiffer Road to Cheynes Beach Road. This included widening the pavement width from 6 to 11 metres to provide 3.5 metre wide lanes, plus a two metre sealed shoulder in both directions.

Cheynes East - Stage Two completed June 2018

  • Works included the reconstruction and realignment of 2.25 kilometres of South Coast Highway around Cheynes Beach Road intersection to increase route safety and productivity.
  • Works also involved full pavement reconstruction and a major realignment to remove the existing curve. The road was widened to 11 metres, which provides two 3.5 metre sealed shoulders.
