Albany Highway - Kojonup South

  • Widening Albany Highway between Kojonup and Balgarup Road
  • Stage 1 is due to start in May
  • Improve safety and enhance level of service for the freight industry

Overview

An 11-kilometre section of highway will be widened to 11 metres between Kojonup and Balgarup Road, including two, 2 metre sealed shoulders.

Project Update

Stage 1 pre-construction works will start on 20 May and include clearing, earthworks and drainage improvements.

Stage 2 is anticipated to start in November 2019, subject to approvals and funding. Works will include road construction, safety barrier installation and pavement sealing.

Environment

To undertake these works, roadside vegetation on both sides of the highway will be cleared however, the design has sought to minimise clearing where possible to 5.5 ha, with the majority considered to be in a degraded condition.

Our initial submission to the Australian Government’s Department of the Environment and Energy determined the proposed works to be a controlled action, due to potential impacts to threatened species and communities listed under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) .

In accordance with section 95A(3) of the EPBC Act, Preliminary Documentation related to the proposal was available for viewing and comment. One submission was received and a response finalised.
